AR PTI

This program shares a federal grant with the Arkansas Disability Coalition in Little Rock and contracts out with Family Support Services in Springdale to administer a state wide program. The program disseminates information to parents of school age children with disabilities.

 

Some of the information provided is:

.    understanding child development

.    finding appropriate services

.    knowing your legal rights & responsibilities

.    investigating options for transitioning beyond school referrals

.    providing resource information

 

Some of the Supported Services include:

.    attending school conferences with parents

.    providing support groups that are disability related

.    locating other support groups that are specific disability related

 

Some of the training and workshops include:

.    developing successful self-advocacy skills

.    effective communication between parents & professional

.    how to develop IEP's [individual education plan]

.    understanding IDEA 97 [Individuals with Disabilities Act]

.    understand the law - 504 children with ADD/ADHD

.    transitioning from head start to kindergarten

.    transitioning from high school to community, higher ed. and beyond

Focus has 2 employees to work on this program out of the Jonesboro office to serve 29 counties.  this program also has 2 Vista volunteers.

Services are provided directly & indirectly to about 3500 people annually.All services are for both parents of children with disabilities and professionals working in the field.
